Gardeners' Update

February 2011

With Nick Butler now appointed Charge Gardener for Eaton Square south side we can expect many different things to happen throughout the coming year. Now the tough winter months are getting close to ending, final preparations for spring are being made.  The last remaining leaves are being cleared and pruning and mulching tasks can now be carried out. This will be a very exciting year for all of the gardens.

The South East garden has received a completely new planting scheme in its lawn beds, with Lavandula ‘Hidcote Blue being the main focus of the display. The display also includes a bright display of white flowers given from the Clematis ‘Abundance which you will see climbing up the cone structures.  Other plants include Thymus vulgaris and a mixture of different vegetables. With the colours of purple-blue flowers from the lavenders and the mixture of pleasant fragrances, you won’t want to leave the garden.

The South Central garden’s bedding display is currently planted with its spring bedding scheme with hundreds of red and yellow tulips mixed in to give a very colourful display. The summer bedding display will include a very exciting mix of silver trails, with the pink and purple flowers from the Petunias and also blues from the Salvias. This will all be on display at the shed area from May until around late September so please do take a look when the flowers are at their very best.

The South West garden is receiving a new layout around the entrance for a more welcoming and colourful display, to be enjoyed as you enter the garden. Look out for the new Acer as you walk in with its wonderfully red coloured leaves.

Nick is looking forward to his first summer here at Eaton Square and he hopes the gardens are enjoyed by all throughout the year.
