Gardeners' Update

February 2011

As is always the case in Belgrave Square, we were kept very busy in autumn with what seemed at times a never ending fall of leaves. However, for those who visited the garden during this time, I think you will agree that the autumn colours were truly spectacular.

As the days drew in and the nights became cooler, the dying back of herbaceous plants signalled the coming of winter.

December saw heavy snowfall transform the landscape which as picturesque as it was, can damage plants. The excess weight can break or disfigure branches and so shaking off of the snow became a priority job.

Red and yellow polyanthus have been planted in the beds in the inner circle of the garden with wallflowers occupying the quiet garden beds.

The pruning of many of the shrubs in the garden is currently underway which includes the roses and wisteria growing on the pergolas.

All the lawns in the garden will be aerated and scarified in February and the bare patch across the east lawn will be re-turfed.

The tennis court was re-surfaced in October.
